Corrections are the most useful thing you can send. For anything urgent about your own case, the official helplines below will help you faster than I can.
koreapaperwork@koreapaperwork.com
I read everything. I aim to reply within a few working days, and I prioritise in this order:
- Corrections — something on the site is wrong or out of date.
- Gaps — a process I do not cover that you had to work out the hard way.
- General feedback on the tools or the writing.
Sending a correction
The most useful correction includes three things, and takes about a minute to write:
- The page URL.
- What is wrong, quoted exactly.
- A link to the authority that says otherwise — HiKorea, the NTS, NHIS, or the relevant statute.
Corrections with a source get made the same week. Corrections without one still get investigated, but they take longer because I have to find the source myself. Either way the fix is written up in the corrections log, so you can see what happened to what you sent.
What I cannot do
I cannot advise on your individual case. That is not modesty about what I know — it is that immigration, tax and employment outcomes turn on documents and facts I cannot see, and getting it wrong has real consequences for you.
Specifically, I cannot:
- Tell you whether your visa application will be approved.
- Review your documents.
- Calculate your actual tax liability or file anything on your behalf.
- Intervene with an employer, a landlord or a government office.
- Recommend a specific lawyer, accountant or agency.
Who to call instead — all of these speak English
| Subject | Service | Number |
|---|---|---|
| Visas, status, registration | Immigration Contact Center | 1345 |
| Income tax, year-end settlement | National Tax Service | 1588-0560 |
| Health insurance | NHIS | 1577-1000 |
| National pension, lump-sum refund | NPS | 1355 |
| Wages, contracts, workplace disputes | Ministry of Employment and Labor | 1350 |
| Driving licence | Korea Road Traffic Authority | 1577-1120 |
| General living information, interpretation | Danuri multicultural helpline | 1577-1366 |
| Tourist and general information | Korea Travel Hotline | 1330 |
| Emergency — police | 112 | |
| Emergency — fire and ambulance | 119 |
1345 and 1577-1366 both offer interpretation in a wide range of languages, not only English. If your Korean is limited and the matter is complex, ask for an interpreter at the start of the call rather than struggling through.
Free professional help
There is more free assistance available to foreign residents in Korea than most people realise, and using it is normal rather than exceptional:
- Multicultural family support centres (다문화가족지원센터) — in every region, and not only for married couples. Free counselling, interpretation and administrative help.
- Foreign workers' support centres — free labour and legal advice, run with government funding.
- Korea Legal Aid Corporation — free or low-cost legal help for people below an income threshold.
- Global centres run by Seoul, Busan and other metropolitan governments — free consultations on visas, housing and employment.
- Your university's international office, if you are a student. They handle these problems constantly.
What happens to your email
It goes to one mailbox, read by one person. It is not routed into a helpdesk, a CRM, or a mailing list, and there is no newsletter to be added to. Nothing you send is published without asking you first — the corrections log records what was wrong and what fixed it, not who reported it, unless you tell me you would like to be credited.
Messages are kept while the issue is open and for a reasonable period afterwards, so that a correction can be traced back to the source that justified it, and then deleted. If you would like your message deleted sooner, say so and it will be. The privacy policy sets out your rights over that data in full, including under the Personal Information Protection Act.
Please do not send documents containing your registration number, passport scans, contracts or payslips. I cannot review them, and I would rather not hold them. If you need to illustrate a problem, describe it or redact the identifying parts — that is always enough for the kind of question this site can help with.
